The Anime Club, largely student ran, is a place for students with a common interest in anime to hangout and talk about anime shows, games, and popular events. The club started by a group of students who came up with the idea and asked advisor, Mr. Wimpenny, to host the club. Most of the ideas are thought up by the members in the club. For example, the main goal for the club is to raise money for the Anime Expo in July 2014. The Anime Expo is the largest anime, magna, and Japanese culture convention in North America. The annual convention hosts many popular events including Masquerade, Anime Expo Music Video Contest, concerts, Battle of the Bands, and the Anime Expo Fashion Show. Although the plans for raising the money for the Anime Expo aren’t finite, the club members plan to raise the money and go this year.
Anime Club meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at lunch in room G-101. On each meeting day, the club does different activities that have to do with anime. Tuesday is the group’s day to hang out and either discuss anime topics such as shows and games, or brings Pokémon cards and play against each other. On Wednesdays, the group watches anime shows like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and Samurai X. On Thursdays, one of the members brings in a game system and the group plays games; mostly Pokémon games. All of these ideas were made by the members of Anime Club, and they’re still continuing to brainstorm ideas for future plans for raising money and achieving their goal for the Anime Expo. The Anime Club gives students a chance to express their love and dedication to anime shows, games, and events going on with other anime fans.

A Counselor Submission: FIND Food Bank

By Shanna McCown

The SHHS California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and the Interact Rotary Club served at the FIND Food Bank on Sat., Nov. 15th, 2014. The FIND Food Bank feeds over 83,000+ "Food Insecure" members of our community on a regular basis. Only 7% of their "customers" are homeless, highlighting that the vast majority of those "food insecure" members are people just like you and me... It could be our neighbors, our family members, our friends. These Shining Knights served the FIND Food Bank by assembling food bags for distribution out in the community. Thank you to all of the CSF and  Interact Rotary members that participated. You truly made a difference in our community.

Toys 4 Tots Fundraiser

WOW - Over $2949.70 - was our grand total at the beginning of the last day of the fundraiser - we were literally $51 and some change away from our personal goal of $3000 in Toys!

From our first year when we had only $612 and Ms. Sherman thought that was amazing - this year we were a hair away from $10,000 total in toys given back to our community over six years!

We are so proud and grateful to be working with such a caring and amazing student body and staff because by the end  of that day: we reached our goal!

By the way - Ms. Clous is in first place with $878.31 - Ms. Mendivil with $670.06 and third place goes to Ms. Deady with $183.02 -

AMAZING!

Just a quick note to the amazing SHHS staff that Mr. Marcus Wood was was named as the DSUSD Principal of the Year.  Please help us in congratulating him because our principal rocks!

Congrats, Mr. Wood... GO KNIGHTS!
